Report on Visit by National Deputy Secretary General cum SNA Advisor
to Maharashtra State

Our National Deputy Secretary General cum SNA Advisor Mrs. Evelyn Kannan visited Maharashtra State Branch from 23rd to 27thFebruary 2015. The main aim of her visit was to interact with all of us and share our opinions, issues, problems and challenges innursing education and nursing service which will help our National organization TNAI to initiate and plan activities which will help us in future endeavors related to our profession.
During her visit Mrs. Evelyn Kannan visited Maharashtra Nursing Council along with Mrs Anita Deodhar, President, TNAI, Mrs. Jyotsna Pandit, Former President Maharashtra State Branch, and also Representative Member of TNAI Maharashtra State Branch on MNC and Mrs. Swapna Joshi President Maharashtra State Branch. She was greeted by Deputy Registrar MNC. They discussed various issues. Later in the afternoon she visited Maharashtra State branch head office at Vashi. She interacted with the all executive members. Ms. Surekha Sawant, Secretary Maharashtra State branch presented the state report and various activities state branch has undertaken to strengthen the branch. Issues like updating TNAI books, increasing membership etc were discussed.
Mrs. Evelyn Kannan visited DHS and DMER Offices on 24th February at 11am. She appraised the Officers on various issues of the nurses in the State. The State Nursing Superintendent has assured her full support to TNAI in resolving these issues. . General body meeting of SNA units of Mumbai and Navi Mumabi region was organized at BYL Nair hospital, Mumbai. There was an overwhelming response. Around 100 Students and Faculty members from 25 SNA units attended. Students from LTMG School of Nursing and hospital welcomed the gathering with melodious welcome song. Mrs Evelyn Kannan was felicitated by Mrs Swapna Joshi President Maharashtra State Branch. Mrs Meena Patole, SNA advisor, Maharashtra State Branch presented a report on SNA state activities and assured to increase number of SNA units in Maharashtra State. Power Point presentation on TNAIMaharashtra State Branch was screened to the group.
Mrs. Evelyn Kannan visited Symbiosis College of Nursing, Pune on 25th February 2015. Principals, Matrons, SNA Advisors and nursing students of various institutes from Pune region attended the meeting.
Mrs. Evelyn was welcomed and appraised of functioning of Pune City Branch and also the problems in that area. Similarly Thane District region meeting of SNA units was held at Bhaktivedant Hospital, Mira road, Thane on 26th February 2015. SNA unit members ofThane region along with their SNA advisors attended the meeting. SNA secretaries of respective units presented their unit reports and their issues were discussed
The main issues discussed were CET and aptitude tests for students, Equal payment on par with 6th pay commission for nurses working in the private sector. Syllabus revision, SNA to TNAI membership, Standardization of education by use of Textbooks published by TNAI, Updating of publications, Scholarships etc. Mrs Evelyn Kannan delivered a motivational speech on this occasion. She stressed on lifelong learning and maintaining the honor of our Nursing profession. She asked the audience for strengthening the TNAI. She also informed the groups about the various activities taken up at National level.
On 27th February 2015, a visit was arranged with Mrs Maya Vadgaonkar, S.N.S., MCGM. Various issues were discussed as forming a separate directorate for nursing of MCGM and otherissues as TNAI membership etc. SNS madam agreed to support in the same matter.
During the week’s visit there was an overwhelming response. This was an opportunity for state branch to strengthen our organization in general and the State Branch in particular.
